“Where you go, I will follow!” This is the attitude every Catholic must have. On this pilgrim journey toward heaven, we should always be ready to follow Christ wherever He leads us—and to follow the Church, the Magisterium, and the Holy Father wherever they lead us through their teaching authority.

Do we promise to follow, only to then defy? Sometimes it’s hard to follow Jesus. We don’t always understand where He’s leading, or we’re afraid of where He may take us. The same can be said about following the Church. Sometimes we don’t understand her guidance or her teachings. Sometimes we don’t understand why the Pope says certain things, or why he doesn’t seem to reflect what we ourselves are feeling. But we should follow anyway. Four Tips for Following the Church Faithfully
1. Humility
Humility means recognizing that God’s wisdom, revealed through His Church, is greater than our own understanding. It’s the virtue that allows us to say, “I might not see it all clearly, but I trust it anyway.”
2. Docility
Docility is the willingness to be taught. It’s the discipline of remaining teachable, in fact. It’s a heart that listens instead of arguing, that receives the Church’s teaching with openness instead of suspicion. The truly docile soul seeks to learn before it seeks to debate.
3. Surrender
Surrender means laying down our own will in obedience to God’s. In following the Church, surrender is not passive—it’s an act of love. It’s choosing to unite our will with Christ’s will, expressed through His Church.
4. Perseverance
Perseverance keeps us faithful even when it’s hard. When the Church’s teachings challenge us, or when the world mocks our obedience, perseverance helps us remain steadfast, trusting that truth always leads to life.
